Crime Stoppers Tasmania (CST) has established responsible and accountable collection and management arrangements to protect personal information within the Company against loss, misuse or inappropriate modification or disclosure.

Personal information is defined as information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database), whether true or not, and whether recorded in a material form or not, about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained, from the information or opinion.

Site Visit Data

This website is operated by CST. When visiting this site, a record of your visit is logged. Information is recorded for statistical purposes and is used by CST to monitor the use of the site, and to make improvements.

The information logged when you access our website is:

  • the user’s IP address

No attempt is made to identify users or their browsing activities.  When entering the Report a Crime area of this site all recording is denied in order to protect the identity of the information provider.

Security of Information

While CST provides a secure environment, you should be aware there are inherent risks associated with the transmission of information via the Internet. For those who do not wish to use the Internet, CST provides alternate ways (for example, telephone hotline – 1800 333 000) to provide information.

Collection, Use and Disclosure of Personal Information

Personal information provided to us will be treated confidentially and will only be used and/or disclosed in accordance with your consent.  The protection of information providers through their anonymity is paramount and the key feature of the Crime Stoppers program.

In providing information to CST the details relating to your identity (Confidential Details) are treated as confidential, unless:

  • CST is required to disclose any part of the Confidential Details by any law or process of law, or by any court, tribunal, governmental or regulatory authority which is entitled to require disclosure of such information; or
  • you have provided your consent to CST for the disclosure of Confidential Details to the Tasmanian Police Force or other law enforcement agency.
