Celebrating 30 Years of Creating a Safer Tasmania Together

Crime Stoppers Tasmania is proud to celebrate 30 years of unwavering dedication to creating a safer community for all Tasmanians. Since our inception in 1994, Crime Stoppers Tasmania has served as a vital conduit between the public and law enforcement, empowering the community to report crime-related information safely and anonymously.

Over the past three decades, Crime Stoppers Tasmania has established ourself as a trusted and indispensable partner in the fight against crime. Our impact on public safety has grown year by year, with 2024 marking some of the most significant achievements in its history.

Significant Contribution to Law Enforcement

In 2024, information provided by Crime Stoppers Tasmania contributed to 33% of Tasmania Police’s intelligence holdings, up from 30% in 2023. This remarkable contribution underscores the essential role that Crime Stoppers plays in gathering actionable intelligence, which is vital in preventing and solving crimes throughout Tasmania.

Increased Community Engagement

We also experienced a 16% increase in community contacts year-to-date compared to 2023, now averaging 23 contacts per day. This surge is attributed to highly effective media and social media campaigns that have significantly raised awareness about the importance of reporting crime. The shift towards digital engagement is particularly notable, with over 85% of reports now submitted through the online portal developed by Motorola Solutions, highlighting the growing involvement of younger Tasmanians in supporting public safety.

Improved Report Quality and Conversion

The quality of reports has consistently improved, with the conversion rate of community contacts into actionable Police Information Reports stabilising at 63% in 2024, following increases from 47% in 2022 and 64% in 2023. This trend demonstrates not only higher engagement from the public but also the increasing value of the information provided.

Diverse Crime Reporting

Crime Stoppers Tasmania has broadened our focus beyond illicit drugs to include a wider range of community crime issues, such as theft, wanted persons, burglary, and antisocial behaviour. This expansion ensures that Crime Stoppers remains relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of Tasmanian communities.

High Awareness and Community Trust

A recent survey reveals that 95% of Tasmanians recognise Crime Stoppers as a key organisation for reporting crime, reflecting the high level of trust and reliability that we have built within the community over the past 30 years.

Acknowledgment of Partners

Crime Stoppers Tasmania would not be able to provide our crucial services without the ongoing support of our partners. Their contributions are integral to our mission, and we extend our deepest thanks for their unwavering support over the past three decades.
