That is the Crime Stoppers Week 2026 message, which is encouraging Tasmanians to ask themselves, “What’s the real deal?” and recognise that what may appear to be an isolated incident or suspicious activity could be part of a much larger criminal network.
The good news is that communities play a vital role in disrupting crime.
People often notice unusual activity before authorities do. It might be suspicious behaviour at a property, unusual vehicle traffic at odd hours, suspected drug activity, illegal tobacco or vape sales, unexplained freight movements, stock being stored in unusual locations, or information shared through local networks and communities. What seems insignificant on its own can help authorities connect the dots and build a bigger picture of criminal activity.

Every tip is passed to the appropriate law enforcement agency for assessment and action. More than 10,000 people contacted Crime Stoppers Tasmania in 2025, demonstrating the important role community information plays in helping solve and prevent crime.
This Crime Stoppers Week, the call to action is simple: If something doesn’t look right, speak up. You don’t need proof, and you don’t need to get involved. Every tip counts – and has the potential to disrupt organised crime and makes Tasmania safer for everyone.
