Stronger Together: How Tasmanians and Police are Shaping a Safer Future with Motorola Solutions’ Digital Reporting Technology
- Adopting an innovative online reporting portal from Motorola Solutions has led to a near doubling of crime tips from the public over four years.
- Delivering improved multimedia capabilities has led to almost one in four reports now featuring photo or video evidence.
- Embracing digital crime reporting technology reflects growing public readiness to share location and critical data with emergency services.
Building Safer Communities Through Technology
Trust, cooperation and a shared responsibility for safety form the foundation of resilient communities. In Tasmania, the bond between the community and Tasmania Police is growing stronger through Crime Stoppers Tasmania’s online crime reporting portal, powered by Motorola Solutions.
Since launching in 2022, the online portal has become a vital bridge between the public and law enforcement. By enabling tipsters to anonymously upload media directly from their smartphones, the platform provides investigators with immediate, high-value context during critical incidents.
Tasmanians have overwhelmingly embraced the portal and their inputs are making a tangible difference for officers on the ground:
- 84% of all crime tips received across the state in 2025 were made digitally.
- Tasmania Police drew 35% of its collective intelligence directly from the portal in 2025.
Digital Tips Catalyse Real-Time Emergency Intelligence
The portal makes it easy for community members to share high-quality digital information. Twenty-four percent of all reports received now include photos or videos uploaded directly by community members.
Crime Stoppers Tasmania Chair, Mr David Daniels OAM said:
“Technology that streamlines the flow of intelligence between communities and the police helps to make Tasmania safer and more prosperous for everyone. Our online crime reporting portal has made it quick, easy and safe for community members to share vital information with law enforcement.”
Tasmania Police Commander Joanne Stolp said:
“If you’ve filmed it, seen it, or received it, report it to Crime Stoppers rather than posting it on social media. You can submit information completely anonymously. Every tip helps build a clearer intelligence picture, enabling Tasmania Police to identify patterns, advance investigations and protect our communities.”
